Small Sample Size 2014 – Reason to have Agents

Here is a screen shot of one of my agents with just 7 players and how we did for 2014. This is a mix of mostly small casual players (25-100 a game) and one big player that was only active for a small portion of 2014 (300-1000 a game). After you payout the standard agent commission of about 20%, comes out to about $5000. Account fees for a full year, 7 players will rack you up about a $4700 tab with your provider. For the sake of easy math we'll do some quick…Read more …
Betting with coworkers (taking advantage)

Betting with coworkers (taking advantage)

Sports talk around the office is a lot of people's favorite time killer and distraction in the work place. Trash talking can escalate, money can be thrown down. This is where people can take advantage of poor ignorant coworkers so here's a little betting tip. Personally, I'm not one to fish for these opportunities as it's like taking candy from a baby and I feel bad at times. However, if there's a person that gets on my nerves, I'll take him for all he has if he gives me the chance. I'm talking…Read more …

The Chase

Chasing is a term every gambler has heard of. It mainly refers to chasing money after a bad beat or significant loss. There's a reason why Monday night football is the most heavily bet on game in the week. You have all the people trying to recoup their losses before they have to settle with their book. Chasing plays or cards in poker, or casino table games have the same characteristics, the bettor is making rash decisions driven by emotions rather than analytics. In blackjack, you hit a bad losing streak or dealer…Read more …

The player, gambler, sharp, square. Some terms you might come across as you get a taste of sports gambling. Nothing beats the thrill of doubling up money and getting that influx if cash. Filtering for the good sports gamblers

Filtering for the good sports gamblers

Players come in primarily from word of mouth and referrals. One guy vouches for the next and so on. You overhear some people talking about bets at the local bar or bowling league, and want to bring in those guys as well. Now as a business, you want to attract as much clientele as possible obviously, but this is where you have to be very very careful. There's no guarantee in this business, you're going by people's word and that's about it. No collateral is usually given, you're not holding a lien on…Read more …

The Runner – Who are they and what do they do?

This is the first transitioning step from a player to the book side. You are called the runner or agent for a book. Live Betting – Hacked

Here was a fun edge we discovered when live betting began. Like with all new products that are released to the public, there are going to be bugs, holes in procedure, unforeseen errors that are not discovered in a testing environment and aren't exposed until it hits the public's hands. We had a good one, that might or might not be still available out there today. This involved a book that offers LIVE BETTING. Something that is pretty hard to find with your local books. The advantage was being able to receive data…Read more …
Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

As I sit here watching the Bears and Lions game, it reminds me to always take a moment once in a while to relax and remember to take a mental break from this industry. As a bookie, player, or even an agent, you'll always have some form of stress lingering on your mind 24/7. You need one of these Thursday morning games to cover.... someone carrying a bad debt and you're on the hook for it.... players hiding from a big loss few weeks back. This can kill you mentally, it's a slow…Read more …
Why be a sports book?

Why be a sports book?

Why book, because the house always wins. These are games DESIGNED for the big banks to keep winning. Remember, these lines are set by some of the most intelligent people or software money can buy, and believe me, they have A LOT of money backing that up. I'm a firm believer that the house always wins, and to just trust the numbers. The longer you play, the more you lose. This is essentially the top of the food chain in our little world, however not necessarily the most profitable. You can't really just…Read more …
Is the sports gaming business for me?

Is the sports gaming business for me?

Please be advised that being successful in this game requires hard work, like anything with life. Easy money does not exist. Shame on those how to guides people are selling out there promising some gaudy income if you become a bookie, or touts selling hot picks each week guaranteeing wins. However, lazy people will always buy in to those so can’t really blame them for selling the programs. I saw a how to be a bookie guide stating that you should not have a problem reaching 200 customers if time is used wisely…Read more …
